Gilly Woo is a designer from Bristol. She started sewing at 6 years old and was drafting patterns and fashioning garments by the time she was 10! Gilly went on to build a successful career as a couture dressmaker. From humble beginnings, (making her first collection in her bedroom with a 40 year old sewing machine that she found in a skip), to managing a small team and making wedding dresses and red carpet gowns for premiers and ‘The National TV Awards’.
In 2010 Woo featured as the dressmaker in the hit BBC One TV show ‘Turn Back Time The High Street’ and went on to present Wedding TV’s ‘Bridal Boudoir’.
Becoming disillusioned with the fashion industry after two decades, Gilly began designing and making orthopaedic braces for arthritis sufferers and exploring accessible apparel, building a small clientele of wheelchair users and making bespoke outfits to suit their needs.
A passionate fashion revolution supporter after the Rana Plaza disaster Gilly Woo began teaching sewing workshops at her atelier with the primary goal of educating people about the time and skill involved in garment construction in the hope that they would value clothes more.
